Yaki Onigiri

This was a different and fun little thing to do. These are little Japanese shaped rice snacks. I've bought them frozen before, but recently saw the little molds at my local Asian grocery store so I thought I would give it a try. 

It's very simple really - hot sushi rice, pressed into shapes, grilled on each side, seasoned with just soy sauce and then grilled on each side again.  That's it. 

The market has an entire aisle of rice, most of which are not in English - I just bought the first one I found that had English writing of "sushi rice". I cooked it according to my rice cooker directions.  I sprayed the plastic molds with a little oil to get the shapes out easily, and sprayed my pan a little too. 

My kids loved them!
