I think squash blossoms may be the ultimate in fresh from the garden goodness. They are a real delicacy and a rare summertime treat. They are expensive to buy at a farmer's market - but if you are lucky enough to have squash plants in your yard, then they are a free treat! I use the blossoms from any kind of squash plants, these are from summer squash, zucchini, and pumpkins.
They are also one of the most simple things to make - a simple batter of just milk and flour and a little salt. Fry in oil, sprinkle with a little more salt right out of the pan. And devour! Funny thing too - my pickiest little eater actually ate some of these, because they are orange - her favorite color!
