Food

For me, food equals family. Food is one the primary ways I care for my family, how I keep them healthy, how I fuel and nourish their growing bodies and brains. So it’s impossible for me to photograph food without emotion. With food photography I still adhere to the same principles that I bring to all of the other images I make - that is the idea of capturing real life, momentary snapshots of real experiences as I see them. I don’t style food, the food pics I take are of real meals in progress in my kitchen. I might move a bowl or plate closer to the window to better capture the natural light, but that’s about the extent of my food styling. As such, a lot of my food photography is seasonal - it’s hard to do what I do in the dark of winter.
