Easy Lunch Idea: The No Sandwich Lunch

Looking for easy school lunch ideas for kids - or ideas for packing lunches without sandwiches? Here is one of my all time favorites.

I call this the no sandwich lunch box - or the deconstructed sandwich.

four bento style lunch boxes containing bread, fruit, meat, and cookies.

Basically - take the things you would put on the sandwich, and put them in the bento style lunch box as separate components instead. My kids love this. Some kids will actually stack the bread and ham and cheese together and make themselves a little sandwich. Other kids will nibble at all the little pieces separately. However they do it is just fine. It’s quick and easy and it looks really appealing. Making the food look a little more fun and appealing is one of the simplest ways to get your kids to actually eat their lunch.

These are packed in our favorite EasyBoxes containers, and I’ve used silicone muffin cups as dividers (the exact ones I have don’t appear to be available any longer, but this set has some square ones and they have lots of great reviews). One of them has a little mayo in a small salad dressing container (again the one pictured appears to be out of stock but I also have these and like them a lot).

If you haven’t read my favorite tip for how to keep those sliced apples from turning brown, you’ll definitely want to read this post here.
