The Lunch Idea:
I am constantly trying to think of new and different ways to present the same foods. If you look at my lunches closely, you'll see that the foods are repeated a lot. But even so, the lunch basically never looks exactly the same twice. Taking an ordinary food and just presenting it differently can make it seem like something totally new.
This is just leftover cheese pizza. I cut it in bite size pieces and put them on little skewers. It was quick and easy and I think makes it fun.
The green stuff in this lunch is crispy seaweed snacks. If you haven't tried these yet with your kids, I strongly suggest you do. They are a great way to get some green in them, and they are packed with nutrition. But they don't taste weird! They are crunchy and salty, like eating a cracker or a chip. I think they have a little bit of a nutty flavor, and maybe just a hint of an Asian flavor. Try them. Every kid I've ever gotten to taste one really likes them - even my pickiest kid loves them. I get them at Costco and Trader Joe's.
My lunches take a few minutes longer to make just because I am making four of them. But if you were making this lunch for just one or two kids, you could have this done in less than 5 minutes.
What's in the lunch:
- Leftover cheese pizza
- Carrot sticks
- Apples and oranges (one just has apples)
- Seaweed snacks.
Tips and Questions:
- These were made the night before, and I don't have a problem with keeping the seaweed crisp overnight.
- Cutting whole organic carrots into sticks takes just a minute, and they taste so much better than processed 'baby' carrots.
- I don't do anything to the apples to prevent browning. These apples were cut the night before this picture was taken. You can read my post about apples here.
